Welcome Back.

Dear Bush community,

The presence of students around campus—visiting with faculty, training with their athletic teams, nervously poking their heads into classrooms—is all the indication we need that summer is officially over. Selfishly, I have been awaiting this day for weeks. We truly miss you when you’re not here; summer is lonely without the energy, movement, and laughter of your children on campus.

We cannot wait to see their faces next week and to welcome them to another exciting year at The Bush School as they discover new books, new friendships, new classrooms, new teachers, and opportunities to spark new passions.

This year, your children will begin the new school year with the following.

  • Twenty-five new faculty and staff members from Germany, Chicago. Winthrop, Exeter (NH), Philadelphia, and Madison Valley. They look forward to meeting and working with your children.
  • Ninety-two eager new students.
  • A completed Strategic Planning Framework that will guide and inform the work of the Board.
  • A renewed sense of hope, optimism, and Purpose—the theme for the year.

We are excited about these new faces, perspectives, and initiatives that will help us grow as an institution. At our opening meetings this year, our faculty and staff talked about the psychology of purpose and how communities cultivate and nurture a shared sense of purpose. This sense of purpose affects how we act, how we relate to one another, what values we promote, and whom we will become. I cannot think of more meaningful work.

I want to officially welcome new members to the school leadership as part of our administrative team and Board of Trustees, including Justin Moon ’91, who has been elected President of the Board of Trustees. We are so pleased that Justin—a Bush alum and new Bush parent—will lead the Board during this exciting time for the school. I want to extend my gratitude to Tracy Stanton, as she takes a one-year leave from the Board to manage work and family obligations. Her leadership has been truly inspiring and has left an indelible impact on The Bush School. I look forward to working with her again when she resumes her Trustee role in 2018. Here, you can learn more about Justin and the new members of the school’s leadership team.

We hope to see all of your at Convocation on Wednesday, August 6, at 8:30 a.m.

Welcome back,

Percy L. Abram, Ph.D.
